Local and Indigenous participation

We scope local and Indigenous employment and procurement before the roster and supply chain are locked — because after that, there's nothing left to change.

Why this page exists

Most camp operators publish a participation statement. Few can tell you what they did before they built the crew, because they built the crew first and counted afterwards.

Ngurra was set up around a simple principle: remote operations should create opportunities for the people and businesses connected to the regions they operate in. Not as corporate social responsibility. As a normal part of building the operation.

We named the company after it. Ngurra means a place of belonging.

Four commitments

Local employment

We recruit from the region before we fly a workforce in. Regional candidates get first access to roles across catering, housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, administration and maintenance.

Indigenous participation

We build roles and training pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates into the operating crew, not alongside it.

Local procurement

We test regional businesses for goods, services, logistics and support before defaulting to national suppliers.

Indigenous suppliers

We open procurement and subcontracting categories to Indigenous-owned businesses across food supply, transport, cleaning, maintenance, waste and site services — and report which categories were opened and what was awarded.

How it works

  1. 01

    Map the region

The regional labour market, Traditional Owner groups connected to the project area, Indigenous enterprises, capable regional businesses, and any land access or community agreements already in place.

  2. 02

    Identify the openings

Match that map to the actual operation: which roles, which procurement categories, which subcontract packages. This produces a written plan with named categories, not a percentage target with nothing behind it.

  3. 03

    Build from it

Recruitment and procurement run against the plan. Regional and Indigenous candidates and suppliers are approached first, then assessed on capability and safety like everyone else.

  4. 04

    Support delivery

Induction, training and supervision so people stay in the roles. Practical support for smaller suppliers meeting a resources client's compliance requirements. Winning a category isn't the outcome. Holding it is.

  5. 05

    Report honestly

Workforce composition, regional and Indigenous spend by category, roles filled — and the gaps, including where a region couldn't supply what the project needed.

What we don't claim

Ngurra Solutions is not an Indigenous-owned business and doesn't present itself as one. We are not Supply Nation registered. We don't publish participation percentages we haven't achieved.

What we commit to is process: participation scoped before the roster, reported against the plan, and reported honestly when a region couldn't supply what a project needed.

If you need an Indigenous-owned prime contractor, we'll tell you that and, where we can, point you to one.

Supporting your obligations

Where a project carries Indigenous Procurement Policy, Social Procurement Framework, Local Industry Participation Plan or Native Title obligations, we scope to them from the start and report in the format you have to submit. Bring the requirement to scoping and we'll build to it.

Capability statement

Participation capability statement available on request — hello@ngurrasolutions.com.au

Ngurra Solutions acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we work, and their continuing connection to Country, culture and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Bring us your participation requirement at scoping.

Tell us at the first conversation rather than at contract. It changes how we build the operation.
